Rehab-Physical Therapy FAQ
How often will my dog need physical therapy?
This depends on the animals initial physical condition and disease. It is difficult to predict recovery rates as each animal is an individual and responds at a different rate. Most pets begin with PT 2-3 times weekly for 4-6 weeks.
How long does it take to see results?
This depends on the pets age, condition, disease or injury. Typically some beneficial effects are seen during the first 2-4 sessions.
How long is a physical therapy session?
A physical therapy session is approximately 30-60 minutes depending on the techniques used by the therapist.
How soon after surgery can my dog start rehabiliation?
Rehabilitation can begin within 24 hours post surgery, typically beginning with cold therapyt and NMES. However, most animals seen by our center don't begin until the sutures have been removed by their surgeon.
What should I bring to my pets initial Canine Rehab session?
You should bring any medications your pet is taking and a copy of your records to include x-rays. If the records are not available at your first appointment a physical therapy program for your pet will not be able to be completed without his or her records.
What if my dog does not like water?
Most dogs will accept hydrotherapy after the first few sessions with extra time, patience and a few good treats!
