Pet Sitters

ABOUT HEATHER

My love for animals started at a young age while visiting family friends on an Amish farm in Florida. I enjoyed my summers traveling in the Amish countryside and learning about veterinary medicine and animal husbandry. While growing up in Southern California I had participated in oil spill clean up efforts and knew from that point on that I wanted to have a career in veterinary medicine.

After high school I began my studies at Carrington College in Sacramento, California and graduated in 2001 from their veterinary technology program. After earning my veterinary technician certificate I took an additional 6-month course to prepare for the California veterinary technician state board exam, which I passed in April of 2002. During my time at Carrington, I worked at a small animal hospital and completed internship rotations in surgery, large animal medicine and exotics.

In 2002 I took a position at a multi-species hospital where I worked with companion animals, large animals and exotic pets that included deer, raptors, and others. In April of 2009 I decided to develop a post surgical and intensive care pet care outpatient service called YourPawPal.

I decided to develop Your PawPal as a resource for pet owners. While working in the veterinary hospital I noticed many owners who had concerns about how to care for their high maintenance medical and post operative animals. These concerns ranged from not being able to take time off work mid day to check on them, unfamiliarity and difficulty in administering medications, to not feeling confident they would know signs of distress or pain in their pet. It was my goal to establish a service that helped owners feel more comfortable and confident in caring for their animals after they have left the hospital.

To keep my veterinary technical skills sharp and to stay current on new advances in veterinary medicine, I regularly volunteer my time at local veterinary hospitals and attend continuing education classes. I like to work closely with pet owners and their regular veterinarians to ensure the best possible treatments for pets under my care.

At YourPawPal, we specialize in providing service to pets with special needs such as geriatric and cancer patients, pets with serious medical conditions and those, which require end of life (hospice) care. We are familiar with conventional and holistic methods of veterinary care, and special feeding/dietary programs.

I enjoy being part of a team that works to promote the recovery of each animal to provide the best quality of care possible. I enjoy helping pet owners with routine pet care but also take great satisfaction in assisting clients through difficult and emotional times as well.

I strongly believe that the human animal bond is essential to support healing and believe that owners should participate in their pets care as much as possible to enhance their pets overall quality of life. Visit the website to learn more about pet sitting services >
