I was so happy to find an integrative vet in Sac, let alone in my neighborhood. My cat is healthy but today her ear was bothering her and we visited Dr. Beebe. I was impressed with the staff and the doctor was comprehensive in her diagnosis and patient will all of my questions. I am so glad we found her!

SIT REP
I’ve gotten referrals from friends that mention the quality care provided by Integrative Veterinary Center, and seen some local animules that have benefited from the “non-traditional” methods of treatment.

SET-UP
Of special note, the fact that they will do house calls is pretty extraordinary in anyone’s situation given either the fragile state of the animal, or the shut-in elderly that I know.

They are the 2nd closest vet center to my neighborhood and it’s nice to have this option for alternative vet medicine.

THE LOWDOWN
High marks for the exceptional reputation of the vet doctors on staff.

It is now eight months later and our HIV+ cat is happy and healthy, thanks to Dr. Simko’s care and to a daily diet/health routine at home. The last blood work showed “no signs of infection”.

Dr. Simko now also sees our 13 year old cat, and actually came to the house since the old guy gets so stressed at the vets. A relief for him and for us too!

We are so thankful for IVC.

When western vet medicine has discouraged you from seeing any progress in your pet’s health: I highly recommend Dr. Beebe and the entire staff. Be prepared to be encouraged and see a difference in the well being of your beloved pet.

We take our 5 year Husky, Lyca, and our 6 month Malamute puppy, Toki, to see Dr. Beebe. The vet assistants were great and they are always so friendly. Whenever we walk in they always have a treat ready for our pups, and they keep the clinic with a very calm and welcoming air.

Lyca started Prolotherapy treatment for two torn tendons in her hind legs, because the tendons were only partially torn. We didn’t want to choose surgery because there’s a chance that it could permanently ruin her life, and if this therapy failed we would still have more options.

The treatment did wonders for Lyca. At the beginning in August 2010, Lyca was admitted to Dr. Beebe limping, in obvious pain and needing pain medication, and grumpy as an old grandma because we couldn’t allow her to run, jump or twist. By Nov 2010 she was trotting and happy again because she was able to go on daily walks again. The treatment did amazing things for her and restored her carefree attitude. It was very uplifting to watch her go to the bathroom like a normal dog, rather than watching her squat down slowly and in pain, with her knees quivering.

For an overall rating, Dr. Beebe is VERY informative and to the point. She’s very easy to talk to, she’s down to earth with a lot of common sense and she’s very honest. She’s a wonderful doctor, and her Veterinary offers a lot of vitamin products that are not overpriced, I favor the Kelp and blueberries antioxidant powder, because not only does it have 70+ vitamins, it’s also a cancer preventative. Their prices on the Honest Kitchen Dehydrated food are better than buying it at a regular pet store as well.

I give the Integrative Veterinary Center 6 stars out of 5 stars. They’re just that good.

I didn’t want three dogs! My oldest son moved back home with his two monster dogs, one looked like a Great Dane/Rottweiler/Doberman/cat hater dog, and the other was a cross between red nose pit bull/ mastiff/and a pig. Then my youngest son moved back with his dog! Oh my gosh, no way did I WANT THREE DOGS. I love dogs; I love all animals, up until now we’ve had snakes, an iguana, a ferret, a goat, chickens, rabbits, a very mean rooster, 4 dogs, and 6 cats. Our beloved Betsy, a lab mix, had passed away recently. I needed more time, no more animals! AArrggggg.

I told him we would have to find a home for his dog Sassy. He didn’t want to but he did understand. So Sassy stayed in the garage or his room. When Sassy had to go outside, we had to put the monster dogs in the old goat pen, I didn’t think they’d get along. Sassy was a year old Border collie mix with lots of energy and didn’t know when the big dogs growled at her or nipped it meant leave them alone. I sure didn’t want to get in the middle of a crazy monster dog fight so we tried to keep them separated most of the time.

Pretty soon Sassy began coming into all the rooms in the house. While working on the computer she would constantly nudge my arm so I couldn’t type and look at me with those beautiful eyes saying “I love you, let’s play”. I was usually in need of a break anyway so I’d stop and she’d bring me her favorite toy and we’d play. She taught me how to play until she had enough and then I could go back to work – funny how I always got so much more work done after those little breaks.
My friend had recently lost her beloved dog. She was ready to get another so I said we have an extra – take her! She came over about 5pm to pick her up for the night, sort of a trial run to see if she was a good fit for their family. At 8pm I was really lonely, I called just to see how Sassy was doing. My friend said would I mind if she brought her back? Sassy was too much for her to handle. I was so happy! Wow, I almost lost her and I really did love this dog. So that’s how Sassy became our dog.

Well, I guess I should say my son’s dog. That is whom Sassy really belonged to. Shortly after he came to live back home he was diagnosed with a severe mental illness. We could not have lived through the time it took for him to become stable without Sassy. She was there for him, and all of us. She knew when someone needed a hug or just a faithful dog that would sit by you. And she knew when it was time to nudge someone into gentle action. She’d bring a toy to you and nudge and nudge until you’d get up and play with her. We all needed her, but she had a special relationship with our son.

One time when he went out of town with his dad for a week, Sassy let him know how she felt about it when he got back. Of course he gave Sassy a big hug and kiss when he got back home, but that wasn’t enough for Sassy. She had to have her say. While he was trying to tell me about his week away, Sassy wouldn’t let him get many words in without her yowling at him. Every time he started to talk Sassy would bark her little rrrrruuufff and get a little louder and mix in a few growls at him as if to say “Hey! You were gone for a week and didn’t take me! Well, you better listen to what I have to say and look at me when I’m talking to you!! This went on for about 45 minutes. We were laughing so hard nobody could talk except for Sassy and she definitely had a lot to say!

When Sassy was about 6 years old we found a lump on the back of her leg just above the pad. She also had some bumps in her ears. I took her to our vet and they tried everything, antibiotics, creams, etc. Finally we decided to have it removed and get a biopsy. There was absolutely nothing in this big lump. Then she started getting lumps or nodules on the pads of her feet, nose and around her mouth too. They would break open and bleed. I’d use ointment from the vet and wrap up her paws with gauze and then put a baby sock over the whole thing with Velcro around the top of the sock. She didn’t like it much, but after a while she learned to run and jump with her socks on just as if they weren’t there. Then we went to one of the best dermatologist’s for dogs in the country. She tried some heavy-duty medicines including steroids, but Sassy almost died from their side-effects. We took her to the UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital and they diagnosed her with sarcoidosis. This is very rare in dogs, but unfortunately there is nothing they could do. It is an immune mediated disease and people and dogs usually die from the disease. Our regular vet told us to try Dr. Beebe at Integrative Veterinary Center. She said she uses the holistic approach and there was nothing else any other vet could do for her.

What a nice office we walked in to with calming music, soft lighting, no sterile antiseptic smells or any other animal smells. Everything calm and Feng Shui except for Sassy bouncing from the floor to my lap, lap to floor, floor to waiting bench, waiting bench to chair, chair to floor, then all over again. But this was a much better reaction then at any other vet’s office we’ve been to. She usually aims for the front door and runs for the car. On our first visit Dr. Beebe said she wanted to try acupuncture. She explained everything to me and what she wanted to do with Sassy, what she thought would help, but I was still thinking “acupuncture? For a dog??”. I just thought – o.k. good luck with that! I could just see Sassy with little needles stuck in her. She wouldn’t tolerate it. Dr. Beebe took her away to try acupuncture. I didn’t hear any loud noises so I guess everything went o.k. When she brought Sassy back, Dr. Beebe said she’d be very tired and probably fall asleep in the car on the way home. Sassy has never even lain down in the car, there’s no way she’ll sleep. She can’t even decide if she’s going to stay in the front seat or the back or which window she wants to slobber all over.

I am now 100% sold on acupuncture. If anyone ever has a question if it really works, try it on a hyper Border Collie mix – nothing else has ever calmed her down like this. She looked like she just had the best massage, spa, relaxing day at the sauna and slept with a goofy little grin on her face all the way home. She seemed in-sync, like everything was as it is supposed to be.

For the next 4 years Sassy saw Dr. Beebe for herbs, medicine and acupuncture. Over time the nodules on her ears, feet , and mouth almost completely went away. Some nodules never went away totally, but I didn’t have to wrap her paws very often. Unfortunately she started having problems with her kidneys and Dr. Beebe thought it was probably due to the sarcoidosis affecting them.

Her kidney values were starting to go up and eventually she went into renal failure. We had to give her fluids once a week then finally during the last week of her life it was almost every day. Saay wouldn’t eat and I couldn’t give her any more herbs or medicine. Then one night she woke me up at 3am. My son and I stayed with her and took turns holding her. We, and I think she, knew it was time. This was the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life, being responsible to put a loving, living, animal to sleep. However, if we had not taken her to Dr. Beebe, she would have died 4 years ago. I can never thank Dr. Beebe enough for giving us 4 more years with this beautiful girl who changed all of our lives for the better.
